  • Ayia Napa Sea Caves

The Ayia Napa Sea caves are a natural attraction, created over millions of years by constant wave action and erosion of the Cyprus coastline . Only 3 kms away from Ayia Napa , they are a continuation of the rocky shore , starting from the end of the Limanaki beach but more pronounced , resulting in a beautiful creation of cliffs, sea stacks , rock formations and caves .

This is a 4.5 km long linear coastal hike, in the relatively undeveloped, east side of Ayia Napa. The hike is on the rocky coast, offering continuous views of the sea. The rock at Cape Greko dominates the horizon. You will pass by the beaches of Ammos tou Kambouri, Kermia and other coves. At some point the marked trail seems to disappear. Keep on going on the coast until you reach the caves. It is certainly an interesting site. There is asphalt road access to Ayia Napa sea caves and dirt road access to Cape Greko sea caves.

Everyday local people and Ayia Napa Sea Caves visiotrs drive to the area , park their rented cars, motorbikes or four wheelers near the shore line and spend time admiring the power of the ocean . On a day when the sea is calm , one can carefully climb down the stepped rocks all the way to the bottom of the cliff edge, walk along the coastline of the caves and photograph the whole area.

The caves can be entered easily and often people are seen exploring the caves or just sitting there enjoying the small waves gently smashing against the sea stacks and the rocks. The colour combination of the different sea plants is unique and gives the water a kaleidoscopic feel. The sunsets are just unmissable , especially for taking photographs. On days when the wind is up and the sea waves are more powerful , it is not so easy to get down to the Ayia Napa sea caves although some feel strong enough to climb down and swim . Very admirable but its all part of the enjoyment of being there. The view however is just as good on such days as the waves create amazing photographable scenes.

The vertical drop from the top of the cliffs is the temptation which quite a number of daring visitors find irresistible to avoid, meaning that you often see someone diving into the crystal clear waters below. It must be a great feeling !!

Another popular sight is brides and grroms having their wedding photographs taken either at the top of the sea caves or when the waters are calm, down below at the entrances of the caves. Different and memorale. It is truly a most pleasing way of spending at least a few hours of a holiday to Ayia Napa.

Cape Greco stands guard only 1 km away giving the whole area a magnificent look and it is quite easy to walk along the coast from the caves all the way to the top of the Cape and enjoy the full view of Ayia Napa.
