Snorkelling and other activities in September

We are coming to Phuket on 22nd September for 8 days, staying in Karon Beach. We(i, my wife and our 17y.o. daughter) are looking for fun activities , hopefully some snorkelling, during this period. We've done the fantasea, elephant trek stuff previously, Seems likely to be late monsoon weather. We last went same time 2006 and the west coast got quite rough sea conditions. Can anyone make some fun suggestions please. Thanks

phi phi island is nice but really really expensive.

I think snorkeling is more intimidating than scuba diving.
