Americans hold various commemorative activities on the last Monday in May every year, to die for one's country soldier to express grief and respect. The earliest Americans began to hold a Memorial Day activities in more than one hundred years ago during the civil war. Around the same time the church and women's organizations and other non-governmental organizations began to mourn for war soldiers.
Memorial Day (English called Remembrance Day) was signed on November 11th every year, in honor of the sacrificial soldiers and civilians in the First World War, the Second World War and other wars. The first memorial day was hold on 1919 in the Commonwealth, formerly known as "Armistice Day", it is founded by King George V in November 7, 1919, commemorating the First World War end in 11 am, November 11 th, 1918.
Different places on the festival has a different name: Memorial Day popular in Australia, Canada and Britain; Poppy Day was spoken in Malta and South Africa; Veterans Day for American call; Japan called the national day of mourning; in France, New Zealand and other Commonwealth countries it is called the Armistice Day, this festival is also the name originally, as an international common.
Poppy is a memento in that day. One reason to wear poppy is a poem “in Flanders field" which written by a Canadian military John McCrae, poppy is chosen because of the first World War is the most fierce battle, Flanders blooming poppies and poppy red is the representative of the trenches in the blood, then someone wearing a white poppy, they think it represents peace.
