The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has announced that Taiwan will be included in the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP) from the 1st of November 2012. Adding it has been a logical development in the “close security, economic and people-to-people relationship between the US and Taiwan.
The Visa Waiver Program enables nationals from participating countries to travel to the USA visa-free, streamlining travel for thousands of eligible passport holders.
As part of a strategy to expand tourism to the United States while maintaining “strong” security standards, Taiwan has become the 37th Visa Waiver Program country. Other countries that have previously joined the US Visa free program from Asia are Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Brunei.
