The House of Representatives agreed on reserving 55,000 permanent residence visas for graduates from the US universities of the STEM fields. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
However, the president and democrat Barack Obama is against the STEM Jobs Act saying it “does not support narrowly tailored proposals that do not meet the president’s long-term objectives with respect to comprehensive immigration reform.” After this, it is seen that the said bill will not make it past the Senate which is Democrat-dominated. The party believes that it will eventually eliminate the green card lottery, an existing program that provides visas to nationals of countries with low immigration to the United States.
