We have a four day stopover in Iceland Sept. 26-30, 2013. We are not the kind of travelers to try and see as much as we can, but rather like to meander and just see what we see. I think I have narrowed it down to just seeing the Snaefellsnes peninsula and perhaps a little more of the western region if time allows. I have already reserved my car and with that being said have two questions thus far. Will I need a four wheel drive vehicle for this area? Will it be possible to travel without hotel/motel reservations at this time of year? We're hoping to see the aurora but realize that would just be a bonus! Any input is greatly appreciated.
