My husband and I are planning to visit our son for 10 days in Santa Fe mid January. He's taking time off from work and would like to leave Santa Fe for the week, preferably within an 8 hour drive where we can all hike and relax. We'd all like to go somewhere warmish, say 60 degrees and over.

the Patagonia area has some excellent nature preserves which can be hiked. Many unusual birds (including hummingbirds) and other wildlife. (1) Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve (2) Ramsey Canyon Preserve; (3) San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area; and, (4) Madera Canyon. The daytime highs should be in the 60s.

March is a great time to go to Santa Fe. The number of people are modest and restaurants aren't packed.
It will be cold at night low 30's and day time temps can be anywhere from 45 -70. But on average they seem to be mid 50's with some low 60's. But you also have to consider that SF is 6500 feet high so a 58 degree day with full sunshine can feel quite pleasant. Onthe occasional cloudy or snowy day go to 10 Thousand Waves and soak in a hot tub. You'll love it.
