Parking is free after 6:00 PM in most parts of that area. However, be aware that there are also many streets with NO parking between 3:00 and 6:00.
During the day, street parking is almost non-existent, as most is for business parking only. If you are lucky enough to find a meter, they can run as high as $.25 for four minutes. Also, they all have a one-hour limit.
Parking on some streets is free on Sundays, but some aren't. Be sure to read the meter.
It's more convenient, and ultimately cheaper, to park in one of the city-owned garages, either Sutter/Stockton or 5th/Mission.

SF parking is the worst on the planet! Theres meters everywhere and they cost a fortune. A quarter will only get you 2 minutes. A dime I think is something like 30 seconds. Anyone that doesnt pay is guaranteed a ticket. But theres never any street parking avail anyway.
