The host heads to Pattaya’s Beach Road to check on the progress of a major drainage construction project designed to prevent flooding and beach erosion. He explains that stormwater naturally flows downhill from Sukhumvit Road to the sea, which makes the work necessary.
Since the last visit in July, the project has extended south near Mike’s Shopping Mall and Coco Fitness, where traffic is narrowed and heavy machinery digs trenches for large drainage pipes. Despite the disruption, the site is kept fairly clean, with crossings provided for beach access. Some sections are already being filled and prepared for cement, while the area near the Beer Garden remains dug up as before.
Estimates the work may reach Pattaya Klang by high season in January. Overall, views it as a disruptive but important project that should help protect the beach long-term.
